Maxwalaogwa '98

Limited Edition of 200 prints by Calvin Hunt.

"Maxwalaogwa is a 32', Northern Style Canoe, carved by Mervyn Child and myself, which belongs to our Maxwalaogwa Canoe Society. The bow design is of Eagle, representing the Kwagiulth of T'sakis (Fort Rupert, B.C.), and the stern design is of Raven, representing the Hunt family. The canoe carries eight pullers and one steersman, and is also rigged to sail. the bow is exaggerated on this print, for design purposes."--Calvin Hunt

The canoe has been part of a great number of events, including the Q'uatuw'as Canoe Festival in Bella Bella '93, representing the Kwagu'l. Maxwalaogwa is named after the late Emma Hunt, Calvin's Mother. The canoe has also participated in the Tribal Journey's '95 to the Victoria Commonwealth Games, and in Tribal Journeys '97 to the North American Indigenous Games in Victoria, B.C.

The print is hand produced by the screenprinting process. Half the edition is on Stongehenge Cover white, and the other half on fawn. Paper size: 18.5 x 76.5 cm., image size 12 x 69 cm.
